Unit, Telematics Control: Operation: Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Fiat 500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

A registered Telematics Control Unit (TCU) (also known as the Vehicle Tracking Module/VTM) can receive remote requests from a Service Delivery Platform (SDP) communication to perform remote operations through an available Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV/500e) mobile application (app) installed on the user's smart phone. Available remote features include the following:

TCU communication internal to the vehicle is accomplished through electronic messaging over the Controller Area Network (CAN) B data bus. TCU external communication occurs using an integral internal modem and Global System for Mobile (GSM) antenna through the wireless antenna and server networks of the SDP using Next Generation Telematics Platform (NGTP) 2.0 protocol.

TCU registration and the BEV/500e mobile application are available through a Uconnect™ web site at: https://www.uconnectaccess.fiatusa.com/bevsubscribe/basicSubscription.jsp  . Once at the web site, the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and Connectivity ID are required. The Connectivity ID is stored in the Instrument Cluster (IC) (also known as the Instrument Panel Cluster/IPC) of the vehicle. The Connectivity ID is retrieved from the IC by pressing the MENU  button, choosing settings  then scrolling down to and selecting the connectivity ID  entry.

Registration is completed after the VIN, connectivity ID, contact information, a user name and a password have been entered. Questions about the registration process may be directed to the BEV/500e Call Center at: (855) 261-5364. Once registration is successfully completed, the user will be directed to the BEV/500e owner's web site where the smart phone mobile app may be downloaded. Once the app is successfully installed, the smart phone will require a valid data connection any time the app will be used.

The TCU will store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) for any problem it detects. A DTC may be retrieved and the problem diagnosed using a diagnostic scan tool. Refer to the appropriate Diagnostic & Testing article .
