A/C Liquid Line Installation

CAUTION:

Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

NOTE:

When replacing multiple A/C system components, see the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE  .

NOTE:

The Fiat 500e A/C system uses a

UNIQUE POE OIL 

in high-voltage compression because it is non-conductive.

NOTE:

Replacement of the refrigerant line seals is required anytime a refrigerant line is disconnected. Failure to replace the seals may result in a refrigerant system leak.

  1. Position the A/C liquid line into the engine compartment.

  2. Install the two RH upper core support bolts (1).

  3. Install the reservoir bracket (1) and securely fasten the reservoir bracket bolt (3).
  4. Install the liquid line bracket to the reservoir bracket and securely fasten the bolt (2).

  5. Insert the A/C liquid line into the routing clip (1).

  6. Engage the A/C liquid line to the retaining clip (1) located on the dash panel.

  7. Connect the A/C solenoid valve electrical connector (1).

  8. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened liquid line fittings and the thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) ports.
  9. Lubricate a new seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it onto the liquid line fitting. Use only the specified seal as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for this vehicle.
  10. Install the liquid line to the battery coolant chiller TXV and securely fasten the nut (1).
  11. Install the liquid line to the HVAC TXV inlet fitting and securely tighten the nut.

  12. Connect the high-voltage battery cable harness routing clips (1) below the onboard charging module (OBCM) connections.

  13. Connect the three OBCM high-voltage electrical connectors (1), and the OBCM 12-volt electrical connector (2).

  14. Install the OBCM electrical connector shield and securely fasten the two OBCM shield nuts (1).

  15. Remove the tape or plug from the opened liquid line fitting and the condenser port.
  16. Lubricate a new seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it onto the liquid line fitting. Use only the specified seal as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for this vehicle.
  17. Position liquid line to A/C condenser and install retaining bolt (2). Securely fasten bolt.
  18. Connect the A/C high pressure switch electrical connector (1).

  19. Install the washer bottle and securely fasten the two washer bottle bolts (1).

  20. Connect the two washer hoses (2) and the electrical connector (1) to the washer fluid pump.
  21. Install the RH and LH headlamp assemblies. Refer to UNIT, HEADLAMP, INSTALLATION .
  22. Install the battery coolant reservoir. Refer to RESERVOIR, BATTERY COOLANT, INSTALLATION .
  23. Install the power electronics coolant reservoir. Refer to RESERVOIR, POWER ELECTRONICS COOLANT, INSTALLATION .
  24. Install the front bumper cover. Refer to FASCIA, FRONT, INSTALLATION .
  25. Connect the negative battery cable and power up the high-voltage system. Refer to ELECTRIC VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  26. Evacuate the refrigerant system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE  .
  27. Adjust the refrigerant oil level. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE  .
  28. Charge the refrigerant system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE  .
  29. Install the electric motor trim cover.
