Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. DTC INFORMATION
    NOTE:

If a pedal assembly becomes mechanically stuck, the detected voltage monitored by the controller will stay at a fixed voltage. If the monitored brake position is pressed, along with the fixed voltage, the controller will set this DTC.

    NOTE:

When this DTC sets, the Electronic Vehicle Control Unit (EVCU) will not use the input from accelerator pedal and motor torque will be very limited as a fail safe mode when foot is off the brake pedal.

    1. With the scan tool, read and record EVCU DTCs and the related Freeze Frame data.
    2. Diagnose all other Brake Switch and APP sensor DTCs before continuing.
    3. This DTC can be set by a driver who uses both feet while driving, one for the Accelerator Pedal and the other for the Brake Pedal.
    4. Ask the driver of the vehicle if these conditions apply to their driving habits.

Are any of the above conditions part of the customers driving habits?

      Yes

      • Advise the customer of what caused this DTC and to adjust their driving habits.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  2
  2. CHECK THE BRAKE SWITCH
    1. With the scan tool, monitor the status of Brake Switch 1.
    2. Press and release the brake pedal.
      NOTE:

The status for each switch should change from Not Pressed to Pressed when the brake switch is pressed.

Does the status change as described above?

      Yes

      • Go To  3

      No

      • Check the Brake Switch for proper adjustment and installation. Check all related circuits for an open or shorted condition using the appropriate wiring diagram. If no other problems are found, replace the Brake Switch in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to SWITCH, STOP LAMP, REMOVALSWITCH, STOP LAMP, REMOVAL .
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CHECK THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR
    1. Ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, monitor both APP sensor voltage readings.
    3. Slowly press the accelerator pedal from its rest position until it reaches the end stop near the floor.
    4. The APP Sensor 1 voltage should start at approximately 1.0 volt and increase to approximately 4.5 volts with a smooth transition.
    5. The APP Sensor 2 voltage should start at approximately 0.5 volts and increase to approximately 2.2 volts with a smooth transition.

Does the sensor voltage change as described above when the accelerator pedal was pressed.

      Yes

      No

      • Check the appropriate APP Sensor circuits for an open and shorted condition. If no problems are found, replace the APP Sensor Assembly in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to PEDAL, ACCELERATOR, REMOVAL . After installation, with a scan tool, perform the Accelerator Pedal Learn procedure.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .
