Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Test complete. The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals and correct pin tension.
- CHECK THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH NOTE:
Visually inspect the Steering Wheel Wiring Harness, repair as necessary.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Speed Control Switch harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Replace the Speed Control Switch in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to SWITCH, SPEED CONTROL, REMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE CLOCKSPRING
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Clockspring C1 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display this DTC as active with the Clockspring C1 harness connector unplugged?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Replace the Clockspring in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to CLOCKSPRING, REMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK FOR A SHORT BETWEEN THE (V36) CRUISE CONTROL ON/OFF SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT AND THE (X920) RADIO/CRUISE/HORN RETURN CIRCUIT
- Turn the ignition off.
- Measure the resistance between the (V36) Cruise Control On/Off Switch Sense circuit and the (X920) Radio/Cruise/Horn Return circuit at the Clockspring C1 harness connector.
Is the resistance above 10K Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the short between the (V36) Cruise Control On/Off Switch Sense circuit and the (X920) Radio/Cruise/Horn Return circuit in the wiring harness.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (V36) CRUISE CONTROL ON/OFF SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (V36) Cruise Control On/Off Switch Sense circuit at the Clockspring C1 harness connector.
Is the resistance above 10K Ohms?
Yes
- Replace Body Control Module (BCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, BODY CONTROL, REMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Repair the (V36) Cruise Control On/Off Switch Sense circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (V36) Cruise Control On/Off Switch Sense circuit at the Clockspring C1 harness connector.
