Theory Of Operation
The Electric A/C Compressor (EAC) is a combination of an inverter module, motor, and compressor. The (EAC) is a smart module that communicates with other onboard modules to regulate cabin comfort and can adjust to conditions independent of what the engine is doing. The (EAC) will stop motor operation if the High Voltage System goes outside of it's normal operating range of between 200 and 440 volts. The (EAC) draws in low-pressure refrigerant vapor from the A/C evaporator through its suction port. It then compresses the refrigerant into a high-pressure, high-temperature refrigerant vapor, which is then pumped to the A/C condenser through the compressor discharge port.
The EAC cannot be repaired and must be replaced if found to be inoperative or damaged. If an internal failure of the EAC has occurred, the A/C condenser must also be replaced
