WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Fiat 500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

1.4L Engine

The alternator contains an Intelligent Voltage Regulator that communicates with Powertrain control Module (PCM) by means of a LIN BUS communication interface. Unlike traditional regulators, containing a set of parameters and a well-defined strategy, the Intelligent Alternator Regulator allows changes to set parameters. These changes can be made by the PCM which communicates through the LIN BUS which it is directly connected to the Intelligent Voltage Regulator.

The regulator receives 4 controls from The Powertrain control Module (PCM):

The regulator sends the following information/errors regarding diagnosis and alternator load conditions to the Powertrain control Module (PCM):

Time-out error.
