Cable, Gearshift Control: Adjustments: Adjustment

Open hood to gain access to the engine compartment.
Remove the battery and battery tray to gain access to the gearshift selector cable end. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, REMOVAL .

Remove the gearshift selector cable end pivot coupling from the lever on the transmission.
NOTE:
Verify that the gearshift lever on the transmission is in neutral.
Loosen the lock nut on the gearshift selector cable (1).
Push the gearshift lever into the reverse gate while holding the lever in neutral.
NOTE:
An elastic strap can be used to hold the gearshift in the reverse/neutral position.
Adjust the length of the cable until the pivot end engages the shift lever on the transmission.
Snap the gearshift selector cable end (1) onto the gearshift lever on the transmission.
Tighten the lock nut.
Install the battery tray and battery. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, INSTALLATION .
