Diagnostic Test

  1. AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. LOW RADIATOR FAN RELAY 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Remove the Radiator Fan Low Relay from the PDC.
    3. Turn the ignition on, engine not running.
    4. With a scan tool, select Low Radiator Fan Relay Control State, Toggle, to actuate the Cooling Fan.
    5. Using a 12-volt test light connected to battery voltage, probe the (K173) Radiator Fan Relay Control Low circuit in the Radiator Fan Low Relay terminal.

      Does the test light illuminate brightly and flash on and off during the actuation?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE (K173) RADIATOR FAN RELAY CONTROL LOW CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between ground and the (K173) Low Radiator Fan Relay Control circuit in the PCM C1 harness connector.

      Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

  4. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) 
    1. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Low Radiator Fan Relay and the Powertrain Control Module.
    2. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
    3. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
    4. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      No
