Diagnostic Test

- RADIATOR COOLING FAN OPERATION
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- With a scan tool, actuate the Radiator Cooling Fan Relay No. 2.
Is the Cooling Fan operating?
Yes
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
No
- Go To 2
- RADIATOR FAN HIGH RELAY
- Turn the ignition on, engine not running.
- With a scan tool, select Radiator Cooling Fan Relay 2 Control State, Toggle, to actuate the Cooling Fan.
- Using a 12-volt test light connected to battery voltage, probe the (K175) Radiator Fan Relay Control High circuit in the Radiator Fan High Relay terminal.
Does the test light illuminate brightly and flash on and off during the actuation?
Yes
- Replace the Radiator Fan Low Relay.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 16V Turbo .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE (K175) RADIATOR FAN RELAY CONTROL HIGH CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Remove the Radiator Fan High Speed Relay from the PDC.
- Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (K175) Radiator Fan Relay Control High circuit between the PCM C1 harness connector and the (K175) Radiator Fan Relay Control High circuit at the Radiator Fan High Relay terminal.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the (K175) Radiator Fan Relay Control High circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 16V Turbo .
- CHECK THE (K175) RADIATOR FAN RELAY CONTROL HIGH CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (K175) Radiator Fan Relay Control High circuit at the PCM C1 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 10k Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (K175) Radiator Fan Relay Control High circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 16V Turbo .
No
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the service information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, REMOVAL .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 16V Turbo .
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (K175) Radiator Fan Relay Control High circuit at the PCM C1 harness connector.
