Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE (K12) FUEL INJECTOR 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY VOLTAGE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Fuel Injector 2 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on, engine not running.
- Measure the voltage between ground and the (K12) Fuel Injector 2 Signal circuit between ground and the Fuel Injector 2 harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (K12) Fuel Injector 2 Signal circuit for a short to battery voltage.
- Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 16V Turbo .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE (K12) FUEL INJECTOR 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (F342) FUSED ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
- Check for continuity between the (K12) Fuel Injector 2 Signal circuit and the (F342) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit at the Fuel Injector 2 harness connector.
Is there continuity between the (K12) Fuel Injector 2 Signal circuit and the (F342) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (K12) Fuel Injector 2 Signal circuit for a short to the (F342) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit.
- Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 16V Turbo .
No
- Go To 4
- CHECK THE FUEL INJECTOR
- Measure the resistance of the Fuel Injector.NOTE:
The resistance of the circuit will vary according to the temperature of the injector coil. Use the table below to determine the resistance range of the injector.
Fuel Injector Coil Resistance Based on Engine Temperature Temperature Resistance -20°C (-4°F) 10 Ohms (+/-.6 of an Ohm) 20°C (68°F) 12 Ohms (+/-.6 of an Ohm) 60°C (140°F) 14 Ohms (+/-.6 of an Ohm) 100°C (212°F) 16 Ohms (+/-.6 of an Ohm) Is the resistance of the Fuel Injector within the specified range?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Replace Fuel Injector 2 in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to INJECTOR(S), FUEL, REMOVAL .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 16V Turbo .
- Measure the resistance of the Fuel Injector.
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Fuel Injector 2 and the Powertrain Control Module.
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
- Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
- Perform any Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 16V Turbo .
No
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, REMOVAL .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 16V Turbo .
