Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
If the are any 5-Volt Supply Circuit DTCs present, diagnose and repair those DTCs before proceeding with this test.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, clear DTCs in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Test drive the vehicle.
- With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
Is the status Active or pending for this DTC?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE (F343) FUSED ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage of the (F343) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit at the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector.
Is the voltage reading between 4.9 volts and 5.1 volts?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the (F343) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit for and open or short to ground
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 16V Turbo .
- CHECK THE (K137) WASTEGATE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (K137) Wastegate Solenoid Control circuit between the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector and the PCM C1 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (K137) Wastegate Solenoid Control circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 16V Turbo .
No
- Go To 4
- CHECK THE WASTEGATE SOLENOID
- Reconnect the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector.
- Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, clear DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector.
- Connect a jumper between Ground and the (K137) Wastegate Solenoid Control circuit at the Wastegate Solenoid Sensor harness connector.NOTE:
Be careful not to spread the terminals.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, actuate the Wastegate Solenoid on and off.
- With the scan tool, select View DTCs.NOTE:
The scan tool should display the P0245-TURBOCHARGER WASTEGATE CONTROL CIRCUIT LOW DTC as active or pending with the jumper connected.
Does the scan tool display P0245-TURBOCHARGER WASTEGATE CONTROL CIRCUIT LOW DTC as active or pending?
Yes
- Replace the Wastegate Solenoid in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 16V Turbo .
No
- Go To 5
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Wastegate Solenoid and the Powertrain Control Module.
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
- Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
- Monitor the scan tool data relative to this circuit and wiggle test the wiring and connectors.
- Look for the data to change or for the DTC to reset during the wiggle test.
- Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 16V Turbo .
No
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, REMOVAL .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 16V Turbo .
