Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Fiat 500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK FOR ACTIVE DTC
    NOTE:

If the are any 5-Volt Supply Circuit DTCs present, diagnose and repair those DTCs before proceeding with this test.

    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, clear DTCs in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
    3. Test drive the vehicle.
    4. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.

Is the status Active or pending for this DTC?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

  2. CHECK THE (F343) FUSED ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Measure the voltage of the (F343) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit at the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector.

Is the voltage reading between 4.9 volts and 5.1 volts?

      Yes

      • Go To  3

      No

  3. CHECK THE (K137) WASTEGATE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the (K137) Wastegate Solenoid Control circuit between the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector and the PCM C1 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE WASTEGATE SOLENOID
    1. Reconnect the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector.
    2. Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With the scan tool, clear DTCs.
    5. Turn the ignition off.
    6. Disconnect the Wastegate Solenoid harness connector.
    7. Connect a jumper between Ground and the (K137) Wastegate Solenoid Control circuit at the Wastegate Solenoid Sensor harness connector.
      NOTE:

Be careful not to spread the terminals.

    8. Turn the ignition on.
    9. With the scan tool, actuate the Wastegate Solenoid on and off.
    10. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
      NOTE:

The scan tool should display the P0245-TURBOCHARGER WASTEGATE CONTROL CIRCUIT LOW DTC as active or pending with the jumper connected.

Does the scan tool display P0245-TURBOCHARGER WASTEGATE CONTROL CIRCUIT LOW DTC as active or pending?

      Yes

      No

  5. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
    1. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Wastegate Solenoid and the Powertrain Control Module.
    2. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
    3. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
    4. Monitor the scan tool data relative to this circuit and wiggle test the wiring and connectors.
    5. Look for the data to change or for the DTC to reset during the wiggle test.
    6. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes

      No
