Pedal(S), Brake And/Or Accelerator: Removal: Removal

NOTE:
If equipped with a manual transmission, refer to PEDAL AND PAD, CLUTCH, REMOVAL .
- Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable from its post on the battery.
- If equipped, remove the knee blocker air bag. Refer to AIR BAG, KNEE BLOCKER, REMOVAL .
- Remove intermediate shaft pinch bolt (3) and separate the intermediate shaft (2) at the base of the column from the steering gear pinion shaft (4). Discard the pinch bolt (3); it is not to be reused.
- Position the intermediate shaft (2) so that the pedal assembly can be accessed.
- Remove the two mounting bolts (1) from the support bracket (2).
- Remove the support bracket (2).
- Remove the stop lamp switch. Refer to SWITCH, STOP LAMP, REMOVAL .
- Disengage the tabs holding the push rod to the pedal, and separate the push rod from the pedal assembly.
- Remove the four nuts (3) attaching the brake pedal sled (1) (and power brake booster) to the dash panel.
- Remove the remaining two nuts (2) attaching the brake pedal sled (1) to the dash panel.
- Remove the brake pedal sled (1).
- Remove the brake pedal keeper (2) from the brake pedal assembly (1) by pressing outwards on the wings of the keeper and then in towards the pedal assembly.
- The brake pedal keeper must be discarded and cannot be reused.
