Pedal(S), Brake And/Or Accelerator: Removal: Removal

NOTE:

If equipped with a manual transmission, refer to PEDAL AND PAD, CLUTCH, REMOVAL .

NOTE:

Before proceeding, refer to CAUTION  and WARNING  .

  1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable from its post on the battery.
  2. If equipped, remove the knee blocker air bag. Refer to AIR BAG, KNEE BLOCKER, REMOVAL .

  3. Remove intermediate shaft pinch bolt (3) and separate the intermediate shaft (2) at the base of the column from the steering gear pinion shaft (4). Discard the pinch bolt (3); it is not to be reused.
  4. Position the intermediate shaft (2) so that the pedal assembly can be accessed.

  5. Remove the two mounting bolts (1) from the support bracket (2).
  6. Remove the support bracket (2).

  7. Remove the stop lamp switch. Refer to SWITCH, STOP LAMP, REMOVAL .
  8. Disengage the tabs holding the push rod to the pedal, and separate the push rod from the pedal assembly.
  9. Remove the four nuts (3) attaching the brake pedal sled (1) (and power brake booster) to the dash panel.
  10. Remove the remaining two nuts (2) attaching the brake pedal sled (1) to the dash panel.
  11. Remove the brake pedal sled (1).

  12. Remove the brake pedal keeper (2) from the brake pedal assembly (1) by pressing outwards on the wings of the keeper and then in towards the pedal assembly.
  13. The brake pedal keeper must be discarded and cannot be reused.
