With Automatic Transmission

- Remove the engine and transmission from the vehicle. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the starter assembly (5). Refer to STARTER, REMOVAL .
- Remove the transmission and flexplate (1) from the engine. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL .
- Remove three bolts (3 and 4), one bolt and nut (2) and the transmission adapter plate (1).
- Drain the engine oil. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the viscosity sensor (2). Refer to SENSOR, OIL VISCOSITY, REMOVAL .
- Remove two bolts (2) and the blocker plate (1) from the oil pan.
- Remove fourteen bolts (1), two nuts and two studs (2) from the flange of the oil pan.
- Using the four indicated pry points, carefully remove the oil pan.
- Remove the tone wheel (1) from the crankshaft.
- Loosen the crankshaft position sensor mounting screw (3) just enough to remove and reposition the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP).NOTE:
The screw (3) has a captured washer and does not need to be removed from the CKP sensor.
- Remove the six seal retainer attaching screws (1).
- Remove and discard the seal retainer (2).
- Remove all residual sealant (1) from the oil pan, engine block and oil pump. Refer to CLEANING .
