With Automatic Transmission

  1. Remove the engine and transmission from the vehicle. Refer to REMOVAL .

  2. Remove the starter assembly (5). Refer to STARTER, REMOVAL .

  3. Remove the transmission and flexplate (1) from the engine. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL .

  4. Remove three bolts (3 and 4), one bolt and nut (2) and the transmission adapter plate (1).

  5. Drain the engine oil. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  6. Remove the viscosity sensor (2). Refer to SENSOR, OIL VISCOSITY, REMOVAL .

  7. Remove two bolts (2) and the blocker plate (1) from the oil pan.

  8. Remove fourteen bolts (1), two nuts and two studs (2) from the flange of the oil pan.
  9. Using the four indicated pry points, carefully remove the oil pan.

  10. Remove the tone wheel (1) from the crankshaft.

  11. Loosen the crankshaft position sensor mounting screw (3) just enough to remove and reposition the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP).
    NOTE:

    The screw (3) has a captured washer and does not need to be removed from the CKP sensor.

  12. Remove the six seal retainer attaching screws (1).
  13. Remove and discard the seal retainer (2).

  14. Remove all residual sealant (1) from the oil pan, engine block and oil pump. Refer to CLEANING .
