Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, read active DTCs.
      NOTE:

      If the vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission, this DTC will be set anytime a PCM is replaced, a PCM is flashed, or a certain type of PCM reset is performed. The DTC will remain active until the PCM receives an input from the clutch pedal, press and hold the clutch pedal for a few seconds and the DTC will change to pending and then stored upon a key cycle.

      Is this DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • Go To  3
  2. VERIFY IF THIS DTC SET IN OTHER MODULES 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, read DTCs present for all modules.

      Are any other modules on the CAN BUS reporting communication DTCs against the TCM?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance to the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CHECK THE WIRING AND CONNECTORS 
    1. The conditions necessary to set the DTC are not present at this time.
    2. With the scan tool, check the Environmental Data to help identify the conditions in which the DTC was set.
    3. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
    4. Wiggle the wiring and connectors while checking for shorted and open circuits.

      Were there any problems found?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Test complete.
