Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK IF DTC IS CURRENT 
    1. Using the scan tool, read EVCU DTCs.
    2. Record the Environmental Data and any DTCs.
    3. Clear DTCs.
    4. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    5. Read EVCU DTCs.

      Did the DTC reset?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS 
    1. Read EVCU DTCs.

      Is P07F4 also set?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK QUADRATURE SENSORS TIC COUNTS 
    1. Using the scan tool, note the tic counts of the Quadrature sensors.
    2. In Park, the absolute tic count (both sensors added together) should be between 240 counts and 390 counts. In Reverse, Neutral or Drive, the absolute tic count should be between negative (-) 20 counts and 20 counts

      Is the absolute tic count out side of the range given above?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • Go To  5
  4. CHECK THE PARK PAWL MOTOR 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Refer to MOTOR, PARK PAWL, INSPECTION and perform the motor inspection procedure.

      Is the Park Pawl Motor shaft striped or broken?

      Yes 

      • Replace the Park Pawl Motor in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Using the schematics as a guide, check the Electric Vehicle Control Unit (EVCU) pins, terminals, and connectors for corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Pay particular attention to all power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace the EVCU in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to UNIT, ELECTRIC VEHICLE CONTROL (EVCU), REMOVAL .
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. MONITOR THE MOTOR PWM1, PWM2, ENABLE, AND QUADRATURE 1 AND 2 SIGNALS 
    1. While holding the brake, shift the vehicle into Reverse.
    2. Using the scan tool graphing function, graph the Motor PWM1 and 2, Enable, and Quadrature sensors 1 and 2 readings.
    3. Shift the vehicle ONLY between Reverse, Neutral and Drive several times.

      Did one or both Quadrature sensors count with the Motor PWM1 and 2 staying between 45% and 55% and the Enable stay low?

      Yes 

      • Using the schematics as a guide, check the Electronic Shift Module (ESM) pins, terminals, and connectors for corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Pay particular attention to all power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace the ESM in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  6
  6. MONITOR THE MOTOR PWM1, PWM2 AND ENABLE SIGNALS 
    1. Use the Motor PWM1 and 2, Enable, and Quadrature sensors 1 and 2 readings from the previous step.

      Did the Motor PWM1 or PWM2 transition either less than 45% or greater than 55%, or did the Enable line transition high during the previous step?

      Yes 

      • If PWM1 transitioned, Go To  7
      • If PWM2 transitioned, Go To  10
      • If the Enable transitioned, Go To  13

      No 

      • Using the schematics as a guide, check the Electronic Shift Module (ESM) pins, terminals, and connectors for corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Pay particular attention to all power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace the ESM in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .
  7. CHECK THE (T198) MOTOR PWM 1 AND PULL DOWN CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the EVCU C2 harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the ESM C2 harness connector.
    4. Measure the resistance of the (T198) Motor PWM 1 and Pull Down circuits between the appropriate terminal of the ESM C2 harness connector and both terminals of the EVCU C2 harness connector.

      Is the resistance of the (T198) Motor PWM 1 or Pull Down circuits above 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (T198) Motor PWM 1 or Pull Down circuit for an open.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  8
  8. CHECK THE (T198) MOTOR PWM 1 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (T198) Motor PWM 1 circuit between ground and the appropriate terminal of the EVCU C2 harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 100k Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (T198) Motor PWM 1 circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  9
  9. CHECK THE (T198) MOTOR PWM 1 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. Measure the voltage of the (T198) Motor PWM 1 circuit on the appropriate terminal of the ESM C2 harness connector.

      Is the voltage above 0.5 of a volt?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (T198) Motor PWM 1 circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Using the schematics as a guide, check the Electric Vehicle Control Unit (EVCU) pins, terminals, and connectors for corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Pay particular attention to all power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace the EVCU in accordance with the Service Information.
  10. CHECK THE (T200) MOTOR PWM 2 AND PULL DOWN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (T200) Motor PWM 2 circuit between the appropriate terminal of the ESM C2 harness connector and both terminals of the EVCU C2 harness connector.

      Is the resistance of the (T200) Motor PWM 2 or Pull Down circuit above 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (T200) Motor PWM 2 or Pull Down circuit for an open.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  11
  11. CHECK THE (T200) MOTOR PWM 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (T200) Motor PWM 2 circuit between ground and the appropriate terminal of the EVCU C2 harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 100k Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (T200) Motor PWM 2 circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  12
  12. CHECK THE (T200) MOTOR PWM 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. Measure the voltage of the (T200) Motor PWM 2 circuit on the appropriate terminal of the ESM C2 harness connector.

      Is the voltage above 0.5 of a volt?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (T200) Motor PWM 2 circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Using the schematics as a guide, check the Electric Vehicle Control Unit (EVCU) pins, terminals, and connectors for corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Pay particular attention to all power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace the EVCU in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .
  13. CHECK THE (H24) ESM ENABLE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (H24) ESM Enable circuit between the appropriate terminal of the ESM C2 harness connector and the EVCU C2 harness connector.

      Is the resistance of the (H24) ESM Enable circuit above 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (H24) ESM Enable circuit for an open.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  14
  14. CHECK THE (H24) ESM ENABLE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (H24) ESM Enable circuit between ground and the appropriate terminal of the EVCU C2 harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 100k Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (H24) ESM Enable circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  15
  15. CHECK THE (H24) ESM ENABLE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. Measure the voltage of the (H24) ESM Enable circuit on the appropriate terminal of the ESM C2 harness connector.

      Is the voltage above 0.5 of a volt?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (H24) ESM Enable circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Using the schematics as a guide, check the Electric Vehicle Control Unit (EVCU) pins, terminals, and connectors for corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Pay particular attention to all power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace the EVCU in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the EVCU VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to EVCU VERIFICATION TEST .
