Lamp Bar, Exterior Handle: Removal: Removal

WARNING:

On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, disconnecting the 12-volt battery negative cable alone will not power down the 12-volt system. You must perform the 12-volt Power Down procedure before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

  1. On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, power down the 12 volt system. Refer to ELECTRIC VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Disconnect the negative 12-volt battery cable.
  3. Reach under the liftgate handle and light bar unit to access and depress the latch tab.

  4. Remove the inner liftgate trim panel by removing the push pins (1).

  5. Disconnect the liftgate switch and license plate light connector (1).

    CAUTION:

    Do not close the liftgate onto the latch since there is no power to the switch.

  6. Remove the four nuts that support the housing (1).
  7. Cover the liftgate catch so that the latch will not lock. Lower the liftgate.

  8. Remove the license plate lighting/handle housing (3) away from the liftgate (1).

  9. Remove the license plate lights (3) by inserting a pocket screwdriver in the access hole by the lights and releasing the locking tab (2).
  10. Disconnect the light electrical connector.
