Section 20 (Body - Interior & Exterior - 500 - Except Electric): DECKLID/Hatch/Liftgate/Tailgate: Liftgate: Removal: Removal

WARNING:

On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, disconnecting the 12-volt battery negative cable alone will not power down the 12-volt system. You must perform the 12-volt Power Down procedure before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

  1. Open the liftgate.
  2. On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, power down the 12 volt system. Refer to ELECTRIC VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  3. Disconnect the negative 12-volt battery cable.
  4. Using a china marker/grease pen or equivalent, mark the areas where the liftgate hinge mount to the vehicle for use in re-installation.
  5. Remove the boot (1) and disconnect the washer hose/liftgate harness.

  6. Remove the B-pillar trim. Refer to PANEL, B-PILLAR TRIM, REMOVAL .
  7. Remove the C-pillar trim. Refer to PANEL, C-PILLAR TRIM, REMOVAL .
  8. Remove the coat hooks.
  9. With the help of an assistant and a suitable prop, remove the push pin fasteners from the rear portion of the headliner and gently lower the rear portion.
  10. With the help from an assistant, support the liftgate and disconnect the prop rods. Refer to PROP, GAS, REMOVAL  or PROP, GAS, CONVERTIBLE DECKLID, REMOVAL .
  11. Remove the fastener (2) attaching the liftgate assembly (1). Repeat on the opposite side.
  12. Remove the liftgate (1) from the vehicle.
