Test Preparation

Check Electrical System Voltage - There should be at least 12.5 volts when measured at the battery terminals.
Ignition Switch Position - The ignition switch should be in the ON or ACCESSORY positions with the engine not running.
Note Power Sunroof Responses - Depress each of the sunroof switch push buttons one at a time and note the system responses. Try both express (short press duration) and manual (long press duration) for each push button.
Note Power Sunshade Responses - Depress each of the sunshade switch push buttons one at a time and note the system responses. Try both express (short press duration) and manual (long press duration) for each push button.

Match the noted system responses to the conditions listed in the diagnostic table to determine the possible causes and corrections for the condition.

POWER SUNROOF OR POWER SUNSHADE COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE AND UNRESPONSIVE	1. Thermal protection feature active.	1. Let vehicle sit for two minutes with ignition switch in the ON or ACCESSORY position to allow the motor(s) to cool and the thermal protection feature to become inactive, then test again.
	2. Ineffective ground circuit.	2. Test and repair the open sunroof or sunshade motor ground circuit if required.
	3. Ineffective fused B(+) circuit.	3. Test and repair the open sunroof or sunshade motor fused B(+) circuit if required.
	4. Ineffective fused ignition (run - acc) circuit.	4. Test and repair the open sunroof or sunshade motor fused ignition (run - acc) circuit if required.
	5. Ineffective sunroof or sunshade switch return circuit.	5. Test and repair the open sunroof or sunshade switch return circuit if required.
	6. Ineffective sunroof or sunshade switch.	6. Test and replace the sunroof or sunshade switch (overhead console assembly) if required.
	7. Ineffective sunroof or sunshade motor and module unit.	7. Replace the sunroof or sunshade motor and module unit if required.*
SLIGHT SUNROOF OR SUNSHADE MOVEMENT OR AUDIBLE RELAY CLICKS BUT NO COMPLETE MOVEMENT EVENTS	1. Binding drive cable or blocked cable travel path.	1. Repair the blocked cable travel path or replace the binding drive cable if required.
	2. Ineffective sunroof or sunshade motor and module unit.	2. Replace the sunroof or sunshade motor and module unit if required.*
MOTOR MOVES FREELY, BUT WHEN CLOSING IT SLOWS, STOPS AND REVERSES DIRECTION	1. Obstacle detection event.	1. Refer to NUISANCE REVERSALS topic following this table.
MOTOR STOPS RUNNING AND WILL NOT OPEN GLASS MORE THAN 8 INCHES OR WILL NOT OPEN SUNSHADE MORE THAN 12 INCHES	1. Motor is in manufacturing mode.	1. Replace the sunroof or sunshade motor and module unit if required.*
POWER SUNROOF VENTS AND CLOSES BUT DOES NOT OPEN, OR POWER SUNSHADE CLOSES BUT DOES NOT OPEN	1. Binding drive cable.	1. Replace the binding drive cable if required.
	2. Ineffective OPEN circuit.	2. Repair the sunroof or sunshade OPEN circuit between the switch and the motor if required.
	3. Ineffective sunroof or sunshade switch.	3. Test and replace the sunroof or sunshade switch (overhead console assembly) if required.
	4. Ineffective sunroof or sunshade motor and module unit.	4. Replace the sunroof or sunshade motor and module unit if required.*
POWER SUNROOF VENTS AND OPENS BUT DOES NOT CLOSE, OR POWER SUNSHADE OPENS BUT DOES NOT CLOSE	1. Binding drive cable.	1. Replace the binding drive cable if required.
	2. Ineffective CLOSE circuit.	2. Repair the sunroof or sunshade CLOSE circuit between the switch and the motor if required.
	3. Ineffective sunroof or sunshade switch.	3. Test and replace the sunroof or sunshade switch (overhead console assembly) if required.
	4. Ineffective sunroof or sunshade motor and module unit.	4. Replace the sunroof or sunshade motor and module unit if required.*
POWER SUNROOF DOES NOT VENT	1. Binding drive cable.	1. Replace the binding drive cable if required.
	2. Ineffective VENT circuit.	2. Repair the sunroof VENT circuit between the switch and the motor if required.
	3. Ineffective sunroof switch.	3. Test and replace the sunroof switch (overhead console assembly) if required.
	4. Ineffective sunroof motor and module unit.	4. Replace the sunroof motor and module unit if required.
POWER SUNROOF GLASS OR POWER SUNSHADE MOVES ONLY WHEN SWITCH IS PRESSED AND HELD (MANUAL MODE - LOSS OF ONE-TOUCH OR EXPRESS MODE)	1. Ineffective communication between sunroof and sunshade motor and module units.	1. Refer to MOTOR COMMUNICATIONS CHECK topic following this table.
POWER SUNROOF GLASS OR POWER SUNSHADE MOVEMENT INCONSISTENT - NOT SMOOTH AND UNIFORM	1. Improperly adjusted sliding glass panel or sunshade.	1. Adjust the sunroof glass panel or sunshade if required. Refer to GLASS, SUNROOF, FRONT, ADJUSTMENTS .
*The sliding glass and sunshade motor and module units are interchangeable. Swap the motor and module units to confirm whether a new replacement motor and module is required or another issue is causing the problem.
