Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, clear all DTCs.
    3. Apply and release the Brake Pedal several times.
    4. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • Test complete. The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals and correct pin tension.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. CHECK BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH 1 STATUS 
    1. With the scan tool, read the Brake Pedal Switch 1 (N.O.) input.
    2. Press and release the brake pedal several times.

      Does the scan tool display Brake Pedal Switch 1 (N.O.): OFF and ON for the appropriate pedal position?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Go To  8
  3. CHECK BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH 2 STATUS 
    1. With the scan tool, read the Brake Pedal Switch 2 (N.C.) input.
    2. Press and release the brake pedal several times.

      Does the scan tool display Brake Pedal Switch 2 (N.C.): OFF and ON for the appropriate pedal position?

      Yes 

      • Test complete. The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals and correct pin tension.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE FUSED RUN-START OUTPUT CIRCUIT TO BRAKE SWITCH 2 FOR AN OPEN 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Stop Lamp Switch harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the Fused Run-Start Output circuit at the Stop Lamp Switch harness connector.

      Does the test light illuminate brightly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Repair the open in the Fused Ignition Run-Start Output circuit.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  5. CHECK THE STOP LAMP SWITCH - BRAKE SWITCH 2 CIRCUIT OPEN 
    1. With the scan tool, read the Brake Pedal Switch 2 (N.C.) input.
    2. Connect a jumper wire between the (B134) Brake Signal 2 circuit and the Fused Ignition Run-Start Output circuit at the Stop Lamp Switch harness connector.
    3. Remove and reconnect the jumper wire.

      Does the scan tool display Brake Pedal Switch 2 (N.C.): OFF and ON and the jumper wire is removed and reconnected?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK THE (B134) BRAKE SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the BCM C4 harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Measure the voltage between ground and the (B134) Brake Signal 2 circuit at the Stop Lamp Switch harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the short to voltage in the (B134) Brake Signal 2 circuit.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .

      No 

      • Go To  7
  7. CHECK THE (B134) BRAKE SIGNAL 2 CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Measure the resistance of the (B134) Brake Signal 2 circuit between the Stop Lamp Switch harness connector and the BCM C4 harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Repair the open in the (B134) Brake Signal 2 circuit.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  8. CHECK THE FUSED IGNITION RUN-START OUTPUT CIRCUIT TO BRAKE SWITCH 1 FOR AN OPEN 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Stop Lamp Switch harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the Fused Ignition Run-Start Output circuit at the Stop Lamp Switch harness connector.

      Does the test light illuminate brightly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  9

      No 

      • Repair the open in the Fused Ignition Run-Start Output circuit.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  9. CHECK THE STOP LAMP SWITCH - BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH 1 SIGNAL OPEN 
    1. With the scan tool, read the Brake Pedal Switch 1 (N.O.) input.
    2. Connect a jumper wire between the (B135) Brake Signal 1 circuit and the Fused Ignition Run-Start Output circuit at the Stop Lamp Switch harness connector.

      Does the Brake Pedal Switch 1 (N.O.) input change state?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  10
  10. CHECK THE (B135) BRAKE SIGNAL 1 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the BCM C4 harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Measure the voltage between ground and the (B135) Brake Signal 1 circuit at the Stop Lamp Switch harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the short to voltage in the (B135) Brake Signal 1 circuit.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .

      No 

      • Go To  11
  11. CHECK THE (B135) BRAKE SIGNAL 1 CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Measure the resistance of the (B135) Brake Signal 1 circuit between the Stop Lamp Switch harness connector and the BCM C4 harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Repair the open in the (B135) Brake Signal 1 circuit.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
