Manual Temperature Control (MTC)

NOTE:

All the gear to gear contact points and the cable levers on the back of the A/C heater control should be adequately lubricated using Silicone Grease, available through Mopar. Lubrication should be performed if there is a concern or complaint of linkage chatter, grinding, or other movement derived noises that are detectable in the cabin.

NOTE:

All of the linkage and gear to gear contact points on the HVAC housing should be adequately lubricated, as well as the air door pivot shaft to HVAC housing contact points using Molykote® Grease, available through Mopar. Do not get grease on the air door seals, as this could cause unwanted flap noises and impairs the durability of the seal. Lubrication should be performed if there is a concern or complaint of linkage chatter, grinding, or other movement derived noises that are detectable in the cabin.

NOTE:

Whenever the mode and temperature control cables are removed from the HVAC housing, new cables must be installed. Failure to replace the control cables when required can result in incorrect air outlet temperatures and operating modes not properly obtained.

  1. If required, lightly lubricate all the gear to gear contact points and the cable levers on the back of the A/C heater control using Silicone Grease, available through Mopar.
  2. If removed, connect new control cables (4 and 6) to the control levers (3 and 7) on the back of the A/C heater control (1) and install new retaining clips (2 and 5).

  3. Install the A/C heater control, control cables and the HVAC wire harness (1) as an assembly into the vehicle and connect the wire harness to the A/C heater module (2) and the evaporator temperature sensor (5).
  4. Install the screw (6) that secures the HVAC wire harness bracket (4) to the right side of the HVAC housing (7). Tighten the screw to 0.8 N.m (7 in. lbs.).
  5. Engage the HVAC wire harness to the two plastic retaining brackets (3 and 8).

  6. Connect the HVAC wire harness connector (6) to the recirculation door actuator (4), located on the air inlet housing (2).

  7. Connect the HVAC wire harness connector (4) to the blower motor resistor (2), located on the air inlet housing (1).

  8. If required, lightly lubricate the blend door cable to gear contact point with Molykote® Grease, available through Mopar.
  9. Connect the temperature control cable (4) to the blend door gear (2), located on the right side of the HVAC housing (4).
  10. Install the metal temperature control cable retaining clip (1) onto the HVAC housing. Make sure the retaining clip is fully engaged to the housing. Make sure the blend door cable and gear move freely throughout the entire operating range. Adjust cable as required.

  11. Connect the HVAC wire harness connector (2) to the blower motor (4), located on the left side of the HVAC housing (5).

  12. If required, lightly lubricate the mode door cable to gear contact point with Molykote® Grease, available through Mopar.
  13. Connect the mode control cable (2) to the mode door cam (3), located on the left side of the HVAC housing (4).
  14. Install the metal mode control cable retaining clip (1) onto the HVAC housing. Make sure the retaining clip is fully engaged to the housing. Make sure the mode door cable and gear move freely throughout the entire operating range. Adjust cable as required.

  15. Install the instrument panel cover. Refer to COVER, INSTRUMENT PANEL, INSTALLATION .
  16. Install the four screws (2, 3, 5 and 6) that secure the A/C heater control (1) to the instrument panel cover (4). Tighten the screws securely.
  17. Install the instrument panel center bezel. Refer to BEZEL, INSTRUMENT PANEL, CENTER, INSTALLATION .

  18. If required, lightly lubricate the control shafts to housing contact points on the front of the A/C heater control (1) using Silicone Grease, available through Mopar.
  19. Turn all of the control shafts (3) on the A/C heater control to the full clockwise position.

  20. If required, lightly lubricate the control knobs to control panel contact points on the back of the panel using Silicone Grease, available through Mopar.
  21. Turn all of the control knobs on control panel (1) to the full clockwise position.

    CAUTION:

    Proper alignment of the control knobs to the shafts on the A/C heater control is critical for reassembly. The knobs and shafts must be clocked correctly to each other or damage to the A/C heater control will result during reassembly.

  22. Position the control panel (1) to the instrument panel (2) and align the control knobs to the control shafts and install the panel. Make sure the retaining tabs are fully engaged and that the controls move freely throughout the operating ranges.
  23. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
