A/C Compressor
WARNING:
Review the warnings and cautions for this system before performing the procedure. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or death.
CAUTION:
The A/C condenser and receiver/drier must be replaced as an assembly if an internal failure of the A/C compressor has occurred. Failure to replace the A/C condenser and receiver/drier can cause serious damage to the replacement A/C compressor.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
- Remove the engine trim cover.
- Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect the high pressure fuel line (1) from the fuel rail. Refer to RAIL, FUEL, REMOVAL - 1.4L 16-VALVE TURBO, RAIL, FUEL, REMOVAL - 1.4L 16-VALVE.
- Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor.
- Disengage the plastic retaining bracket (6) from the A/C discharge line (1).
- Remove the bolts (2 and 4) that secure the A/C discharge line and A/C suction line (5) to the A/C compressor (3).
- Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seals.
- Install plugs in, or tape over all of the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor ports.
- Loosen the two bolts (3) that secure the drive belt guard (1) to the accessory drive bracket (2) and remove the belt guard and bolts.
- Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL .
- Disconnect the wire harness connector (4) from the A/C compressor (1).
- Loosen the bolt (2) that secures the upper front of the A/C compressor and the discharge line bracket (3) to the accessory drive bracket, and remove the bolt and bracket.
- Remove the bolt (6) that secures the rear of the A/C compressor and the wire harness bracket (7) to the accessory drive bracket, and position the wire harness bracket out of the way.
- Support the A/C compressor.
- Remove the bolt (5) that secures the lower front of the A/C compressor to the accessory drive bracket, and remove the compressor.
