Battery Electric Vehicle Telematics

The Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) telematics system relies upon a registered Telematics Control Unit (TCU) (also known as the Vehicle Tracking Module/VTM) and an available Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV/500e) mobile application (app) installed on the user's smart phone to perform remote operations based upon communications received from a Service Delivery Platform (SDP). TCU communication internal to the vehicle is accomplished through electronic messaging over the Controller Area Network (CAN) B data bus. TCU external communication occurs using an integral internal modem and Global System for Mobile (GSM) antenna through the wireless antenna and server networks of the SDP using Next Generation Telematics Platform (NGTP) 2.0 protocol.

The TCU will store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) for any problem it detects. A DTC may be retrieved and the problem diagnosed using a diagnostic scan tool. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.
