Section 11 (Body - Interior & Exterior - 500E): Sunroof: Cleaning: Cleaning

  1. Remove the antenna mast (2) from the antenna base (1).

  2. Open the glass panel (2) to the fully opened position.
  3. Unlock/remove the two torx screws from the lateral guide. Repeat this step for the opposite side.
  4. Remove the glass panel (2) from the sunroof.
  5. Press the vehicle's sunroof switch and slide the mechanism into it's tilting position.

  6. Using isopropyl alcohol and a shop towel, start the cleaning procedure from the belt (1).

  7. Clean the lateral guides (1) thoroughly.

  8. Clean the glass sliding shoes, the inside and the sides of the glass guides (1).

  9. Using Molikote EM 50L Grease or equivalent and a brush, thoroughly apply grease to the glass sliding shoes, the insides and the sides of the glass guides (1).

  10. Apply grease to mechanism belts (1) and guides (2).

  11. Push the switch and open the mechanism to the maximum opened position.
  12. Insert the glass panel (2) to the mechanism.It is important the sliding shoes are correctly installed into the guides. 
  13. Install the two torx screws to the lateral guide and tighten securely. Repeat this step for the opposite side.
  14. Close the sunroof completely.

  15. Install the antenna mast (2) to the antenna base (1).
  16. Perform the sunroof motor reinitialization procedure to verify the sunroof is functioning properly. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
