Unit, Electronic Drive: Removal: Removal

WARNING:

When performing any repairs that involve contact with high voltage components or systems, the technician performing repairs on the vehicle must verify that the system remains powered down during high voltage repairs.

  • This must be done by removing the service disconnect.
  • The high voltage check out procedure must also be performed to ensure that the vehicle is properly powered down.
  • The technician must know the whereabouts of the service disconnect throughout the repair.
  • The technician must ensure that no one reconnects the service disconnect while service is being performed.
  • The technician must recheck that the service disconnect has not been reinstalled in cases where the vehicle was unattended.
  1. Power down the high-voltage system. Refer to ELECTRIC VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  2. Remove the 12-volt battery and battery tray. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, REMOVAL .

  3. Remove the RH front wheelhouse splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL .

  4. Remove the four underbody brace bolts (1), and remove the underbody brace (2).

  5. Remove the two washer bottle bolts (1) and position the washer bottle aside.

  6. Remove the battery coolant heater (BCH) ground strap bolt (1).
  7. Remove the two BCH nuts (2).

  8. Remove the RH and LH half shaft flange bolts (2) at the EDU, and detach the half shafts (1) from the EDU

  9. Using suitable hose pinching pliers, clamp-closed the power electronics coolant hoses at the electric motor.
  10. Release the two power electronics coolant hose clamps (1) and disconnect the two power electronics coolant hoses from the electric motor.

  11. Disconnect the electric motor high-voltage electrical connector (1).

  12. Remove the ground strap bolt (1) at the front of the RH motor mount.

  13. Disconnect the temperature sensor electrical connector (1), and the resolver electrical connector (2).
  14. Disconnect the Park Lock Motor electrical connector.
  15. Install a suitable transmission jack to the electric drive unit (EDU), or position a suitable lifting table below the EDU.

  16. Remove the LH motor mount through-bolt (1).

  17. Remove the RH front motor mount through-bolt (1).

  18. Remove the center, lower mount through-bolt (1).
  19. Lower and remove the EDU.
