This diagnostic checks the correlation between the gear shift position sensors with an expected transmission ratio. The expected transmission ratio is calculated as the rotational speed ratio of the respective primary shaft (odd or even) and the secondary shaft. The gear shift position sensors provide information when a gear has been engaged or not by the respective actuator. The diagnostic is performed after gear disengagement. In order to cover all the possible cases the diagnostic is performed both for actual and pre-selected gear disengagement. A pre-selected gear is the next gear to be engaged and it is presently not transmitting torque. If the gear shift position sensor indicates that a gear has been disengaged while the expected transmission ratio indicates the opposite, the DTC will be set.
