Shaft, Intermediate: Removal: Removal

Remove knee blocker air bag, if equipped. Refer to AIR BAG, KNEE BLOCKER, REMOVAL .
Remove intermediate shaft pinch bolt (3) and separate the intermediate shaft (2) at the base of the column from the steering gear pinion shaft (4). Discard the pinch bolt (3); it is not to be reused.

CAUTION:
Steering column module is centered to the vehicles steering system. Failure to keep the system and steering column module centered and locked/inhibited from rotating can result in steering column module damage.
Remove the coupler pinch bolt (1) and discard; the pinch bolt is not to be reused.
Slide the intermediate shaft (2) off the splines of the steering column.
