Rear Drum Brake Shoes: Installation

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Lubricate brake shoe-to-backing plate contact surfaces and threads on automatic adjuster assembly with multipurpose grease before installing.
  2. Ensure ends of adjuster lever are positioned above guide pin on each brake shoe. See Figure . Tighten all fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Adjust rear brake shoes. See REAR DRUM BRAKE SHOES under ADJUSTMENTS  .
  3. Pump brake several times to ensure full adjustment of rear brake shoes. With parking brake fully released, ensure both rear wheels rotate freely to ensure proper automatic adjustment of parking brake.
