Parking Brake Front Cable: Removal

On models with bench seat, remove front seat assembly and lower rear seat cushion. On models with bucket seats, remove driver's side front seat assembly. Remove set screw from driver's side of gearshift knob. Remove gearshift knob. Remove center console cover.
On all models, remove driver's side door opening scuff plate. Remove driver's side kick panel molding for access to parking brake pedal mechanism.
On models with bench seat, fold carpet back for access to reaction bracket and parking brake cables located near the rear seat. See Figure . It may be necessary to remove accelerator pedal and bracket so carpet may be folded back.
On models with bucket seats, remove console mounting bracket from the reaction bracket located on the floor between the front seats. Remove passenger's side heat duct for access to parking brake cables and reaction bracket. Fold carpet back for access to parking brake cables. See Figure . It may be necessary to remove accelerator pedal and bracket so carpet may be folded back.
CAUTION: Parking brake pedal self-adjuster must be reloaded and locked in position to remove tension from parking brake cables before removing front parking brake cable. Failure to reload parking brake pedal self-adjuster will make servicing of parking brake front cable difficult and may result in personal injury.
Remove cover located on top of reaction bracket (if equipped). Reload parking brake pedal self-adjuster. See PARKING BRAKE CABLE under ADJUSTMENTS.
Disconnect parking brake front cable from equalizer. See Figure . Pry retaining clip from parking brake front cable at the reaction bracket. Remove screws and retaining clips that secure parking brake front cable to the floor.
Remove parking brake pedal mechanism front retaining bolt from the door frame. This is the bolt closest to the door. Loosen parking brake pedal mechanism rear retaining bolts from the cowl panel. These are the 2 bolts closest to the firewall. DO NOT remove these bolts. Disconnect electrical connector from parking brake switch located on top of parking brake mechanism.
Remove parking brake pedal mechanism and parking brake front cable as an assembly from the body. Mount parking brake mechanism in a soft-jawed vise.
Using screwdriver, pry parking brake front cable-to-parking brake assembly retaining clip from end of front parking brake cable. Rotate parking brake front cable so notch on end of cable aligns with hole on parking brake mechanism.
Lift end of parking brake front cable from hole on parking brake mechanism. Remove parking brake front cable from parking brake mechanism.
