Parking Brake Front Cable: Installation
- Install end of parking brake front cable through hole on parking brake mechanism. Install parking brake front cable on parking brake mechanism. Ensure parking brake front cable is properly seated in parking brake mechanism cam. See Fig 1 .
- Install parking brake front cable-to-parking brake assembly retaining clip on end of front parking brake cable. Ensure clip is fully seated.
- Remove parking brake mechanism from vise. Install parking brake mechanism on the 2 loosened parking brake pedal mechanism rear retaining bolts at the cowl panel.
- Install parking brake pedal mechanism front retaining bolt in the door frame. Tighten all parking brake pedal mechanism retaining bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install electrical connector on parking brake switch. Install parking brake front cable on reaction bracket. Install retaining clip on end of parking brake front cable at the reaction bracket. Ensure retaining clip is fully seated.
- Connect parking brake front cable on equalizer. Install screws and retaining clips that secure parking brake front cable to the floor.
- Ensure parking brake front cable is properly seated in parking brake mechanism cam and is located between the cam and the parking brake sector. See Fig 1
.NOTE: On models with rear drum brake shoes, brake shoes must be properly adjusted for proper operation of parking brake before removing Allen wrench. On models with rear disc brakes, parking brake shoes must be adjusted so diameter of parking brake shoes is 6.75" (171.5 mm) for proper parking brake operation before removing Allen wrench.
- To release parking brake pedal self-adjuster, use pliers to firmly and rapidly pull 1/8" Allen wrench from parking brake mechanism. When Allen wrench is removed, parking brake cables will automatically be adjusted. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure.
