Front Brake Rotor: Inspection
- Inspect front brake rotor for damage or scoring. If checking front brake rotor runout, reinstall front brake rotor on front hub assembly so reference marks are aligned. Reinstall lug nuts to secure front brake rotor on front hub assembly.
- Using dial indicator, check front brake rotor runout at 1" (25.4 mm) inward from outer edge of front brake rotor. Front brake rotor runout should be checked on both sides of front brake rotor. Front brake rotor runout should not exceed specification. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS .
- If front brake rotor runout exceeds specification, remove front brake rotor from front hub assembly. Ensure front brake rotor-to-front hub assembly surface on front hub assembly is clean. Using dial indicator, check front hub assembly runout at area just to the outside of wheel lug nut studs. Front hub assembly runout should be within specification. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS .
- If front hub assembly runout exceeds specification, replace front hub assembly. If front hub assembly runout does not exceed specification but front brake rotor runout exceeds specification, resurface or replace front brake rotor. Ensure front brake rotor thickness is not less than the minimum refinish thickness. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Using dial indicator, check front brake rotor thickness variation at 12 equal locations at 1" (25.4 mm) inward from outer edge of front brake rotor. Front brake rotor thickness variation should not exceed specification. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS .
- If front brake rotor thickness variation exceeds specification, resurface or replace front brake rotor. Ensure front brake rotor thickness is not less than the minimum refinish thickness. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS .
