Passenger Air Bag Module System

  1. Perform procedure for other codes before continuing. Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS. Turn ignition switch to LOCK. Disconnect negative battery cable. Shield cable end. Disconnect passenger air bag connector. Plug passenger main harness end into SRS check harness connector 1. See Figure . Reconnect battery Turn key to ON. Using scan tool, erase all codes. Turn key to LOCK, then back to ON. If SRS warning light operates normally, replace passenger air bag module.
  2. If problem is still indicated, remove negative battery cable. Shield cable end, and wait at least 1 minute. Remove floor console assembly, and passenger air bag connector (Green, 2 pin connector) from SDU. SDUs use two distinct types of connector locks. See Figure and Figure .
  3. Unplug test harness from passenger air bag module harness, and insert SDU test connector No. 1 into SDU, in place of previously removed 2 pin connector. See Figure . Be certain double locking connector on SDU is engaged, then reconnect battery. Switch ignition ON. Clear all trouble codes using scan tool. Turn ignition to LOCK, then back ON again. Observe SRS warning light. If light operates normally, repair or replace passenger air bag harness assembly. If light is not operating normally, SDU is defective and must be replaced.
