Valve Clearance Adjustment
- Adjust valves when engine temperature is 176-203°F (80-95°C). Remove spark plugs and valve cover. Rotate crankshaft clockwise until "T" is aligned with notch on crankshaft pulley, cylinder No. 1 on TDC of compression stroke.CAUTION: DO NOT rotate crankshaft counterclockwise (as viewed from timing belt end of engine). If timing belt is to be reused, mark direction of rotation before removing.
- Ensure "T" mark of timing indicator is aligned with notch on crankshaft pulley. Adjust clearance on both valves of cylinder No. 1 and exhaust valve of cylinder No. 3. Adjust intake valve of cylinder No. 2. See Fig 1. See VALVE CLEARANCE SPECIFICATIONS table.
- Rotate crankshaft clockwise 360 degrees to bring piston No. 4 to TDC of compression stroke. Ensure "T" mark on timing indicator is aligned with notch on crankshaft pulley. Adjust clearance of both valves of cylinder No. 4. Adjust intake valve of cylinder No. 3 and exhaust valve of cylinder No. 2. See Fig 1. Using NEW valve cover gasket, install valve cover.
