Fuel Gauge Sender: Testing and Inspection

Fig. 1 Fuel Guage Test Terminal:

1. Remove the fuel gauge electrical harness.
2. Connect 12 volt test light to the fuel gauge and ground terminal.
3. Turn ignition to On position and proceed as follows:
a. If test light illuminates and pointer of gauge does not swing, replace fuel gauge.
b. If test light illuminates and pointer of gauge swings, replace fuel gauge unit.
c. If test light does not light and pointer of gauge does not swing, check the electrical harness for kinks chaffing and broken wires.
