End Play Check

  1. Wheel bearings are not adjustable. Bearing end play can be checked to determine if components require replacement. To check end play, release parking brake. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly.
CAUTION: Never allow caliper assembly to hang from brake hose. Always support caliper, and wire aside to frame.
  2. On models with rear drum brakes, remove brake drum. On models with rear disc brake, remove caliper and brake disc. On all models, attach dial indicator to steering knuckle with tip of dial indicator resting against hub. Move hub back and forth while noting bearing end play. Replace components if bearing end play exceeds .002" (.05 mm). Install brake caliper and wheel assembly.
