Inspection Procedure 1 - No Scan Tool Communication With Any System

NOTE: For wiring diagram, see the WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.0L & 2.4L article.

NOTE: Possible causes are: defective connector or wiring harness.

Using voltmeter, check voltage between ground and terminal No. 16 (Red/Black wire) on 16-pin data link connector. For data link connector location, See Figure . Battery voltage should exist.
If battery voltage exists, go to step 4). If battery voltage does not exist, check for defective terminals or connections at connectors B-07, B-50 and B-75. See Fig 1 .

If connector or terminals are defective, repair as necessary. If connectors and terminals are okay, check wiring harness between power supply and data link connector on Red/Black wire. See the WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.0L & 2.4L article.
Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between ground and terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 5 (Black/White wire) on data link connector. Continuity should exist on both wires.
If continuity exists, replace scan tool. If continuity does not exist, repair open ground circuit on Black wire or Black/White wire to data link connector.
