Cylinder Head: Removal
- Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Disconnect air intake hose at throttle body.
- Disconnect control cables, coolant hoses, vacuum hoses and electrical connections at throttle body. Disconnect oxygen sensor connector. Disconnect necessary wiring from cylinder head components.
- Remove upper radiator hose and overflow tube. Disconnect air intake hoses, coolant hoses, vacuum hoses and oil lines at turbo. Disconnect PCV hose. Disconnect necessary hoses at intake manifold.
- Using a shop towel, wrap fuel line connectors and disconnect fuel lines at fuel rail. Disconnect wiring connector at fuel injector. Disconnect hoses at pressure regulator.
- Remove support brace from intake manifold. See Figure. Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELTS . Remove center cover from valve cover. Disconnect spark plug wires. Disconnect hoses from valve cover. Remove valve cover and semi-circular packing at rear of cylinder head.
- Disconnect exhaust pipe at turbo. Remove heat shields from turbo. Remove turbo, ring and gasket from exhaust manifold.
- Remove cylinder head bolts in proper sequence using Cylinder Head Bolt Wrench (MD998051). See Fig 1. Remove cylinder head and gasket.
