Silent Shafts & Bearings: Removal

  1. Remove the front cover and the oil pump. See procedures in OIL PUMP & FRONT COVER  under ENGINE OILING. Remove silent shafts from cylinder block. See Fig 1. Inspect silent shaft bearings for damage and improper oil clearance.
    NOTE: Remove right front bearing first to allow tool access to rear bearing.
  2. If bearings require replacement, use Bearing Remover (MD998371) for front bearing, Bearing Remover (MD998372) for right rear bearing and Bearing Remover (MD998372) and Guide Plate (MD998374) for left rear bearing. See Fig 2.
