Cylinder Head: Removal

  1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Disconnect air intake hose at throttle body.
  2. Disconnect control cables, coolant hoses, vacuum hoses and electrical connections at throttle body. Disconnect oxygen sensor connector. Disconnect necessary wiring from cylinder head components.
  3. Remove upper radiator hose and overflow tube. Disconnect PCV hose. Disconnect necessary hoses at intake manifold.
  4. Wrap fuel line connectors using shop towel, and disconnect fuel lines at fuel rail. Disconnect wiring connector at fuel injector. Disconnect hoses at pressure regulator.
  5. Remove support brace from intake manifold. See Figure. Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELTS . Remove center cover from valve cover. Disconnect spark plug wires. Disconnect hoses from valve cover. Remove valve cover and semi-circular packing at rear of cylinder head.
  6. Disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold. Remove cylinder head bolts in proper sequence using Cylinder Head Bolt Wrench (MD998051). See Fig 1. Remove cylinder head and gasket.
