Cylinder Head: Installation

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Install NEW head gasket with identification mark at front (timing belt) and top side of cylinder block. See Fig 1. DO NOT  apply sealant to head gasket.
  2. Tighten the head bolts to specification in proper sequence. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table at the end of this article. See Figure. Apply sealant to inside of semi-circular packing and cylinder head before installing. Lubricate injector and fuel line "O" rings with engine oil before installing.
  3. Use NEW exhaust pipe nuts. Apply sealant at valve cover gasket-to-camshaft bearing cap contact areas before installing. Apply sealant to inside of semi-circular packing and cylinder head before installing. Fill cooling system, and adjust control cables.
