Rear Axle Hub Bearings: Installation
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Install inner bearing into trailing arm using bearing remover/installer bar. Apply Grease (2525035) to oil seal lip and install with depression in oil seal lip facing up.
- Install first dust cover over axle shaft and seat against axle shaft shoulder using Dust Cover Installer (MB990799). Install second dust cover with depression facing inboard using same procedure.
- Apply grease to circumference of outer bearing where it contacts sealing lip of second (inner) dust cover. Slide outer bearing onto axle shaft with outer bearing sealing lip surface facing outboard. Press outer bearing onto axle shaft using Remover/Installer (MB990560).
- Slide ABS sensor ring onto axle shaft with groove in ring facing outboard. Support sensor ring with blocks and press onto axle shaft. To complete installation reverse removal procedure. Tighten self-locking companion flange nut to 118-148 ft. lbs. (160-200 N.m).
- Bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM. Adjust parking brake lever stroke. See PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE under ADJUSTMENTS.
To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten NEW wheel bearing nut to 148-192 ft. lbs. (200-260 N.m). Bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM. Adjust parking brake lever stroke. See PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE under ADJUSTMENTS.
