Parking/Emergency Brake
- Pull parking brake lever with 44 lb. (20 kg) force. If lever moves5-7 notches, parking brake is properly adjusted. If lever does not move 5-7 notches, remove carpet in center console. Loosen parking brake cable rod adjusting nut. With engine idling, firmly press brake pedal 5 or 6 times.
- If brake pedal stroke stops changing, parking brake automatic adjusting mechanism (which adjusts clearance between pads and rotor) is functioning. Measure clearance between parking brake lever and stopper on caliper.
- If clearance exceeds .08" (2 mm), check for sticking parking brake cable, improper cable routing or malfunction of parking brake automatic adjuster (automatic adjuster malfunction requires disassembling rear brake calipers).CAUTION: Parking brake automatic adjuster mechanism will not operate properly if parking brake lever moves less than 5 notches after adjustment.
- Turn parking brake cable rod adjusting nut until parking brake lever moves 5-7 notches with 44 lb. (20 kg) force applied. After adjustment, ensure no play exists between adjusting nut and pin, and ensure adjusting nut is securely held at nut holder.
- Raise and support rear of vehicle. Release parking brake and ensure brakes do not drag. If brakes drag, readjust parking brake lever.
