Brake Pedal Free Play

  1. Adjust brake pedal height. See BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT under ADJUSTMENTS. With engine off, press brake pedal 2 or 3 times to eliminate vacuum in power brake unit. Lightly press brake pedal by hand. If pedal travels .1-.3" (3-8 mm) before resistance is felt, brake pedal free play is acceptable.
  2. If brake pedal free play is less than .1-.3" (3-8 mm), ensure stoplight switch is adjusted. See STOPLIGHT SWITCH under ADJUSTMENTS. If free play exceeds .1-.3" (3-8 mm), check for excessive play between clevis pin and brake pedal arm.
