Description & Operation

Instrument cluster gauges include: coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, tachometer and turbo boost gauge (if equipped). The fuel level and coolant temperature gauges are internal coil type, the oil pressure gauge is a bimetal type, and the turbo boost gauge is a moving coil type.

The fuel gauge uses a variable resistance-type sending unit, the coolant temperature gauge a thermistor-type sending unit, the oil pressure gauge a bimetal-type sending unit and the turbo boost gauge a moving coil-type sending unit. Power is supplied to the gauges from fuse No. 11, when ignition switch is in the RUN position.

The speedometer is cable driven, with an internal speed sensor to send speed signal pulses to automatic transmission control unit. Turbo boost gauge indicates turbo boost pressure level. Turbocharger is only operational at engine speeds greater than 2000 RPM.

Warning indicators receive battery voltage from fuse No. 11 when the ignition switch is in RUN position. All warning indicators require a ground signal to activate each indicator light.

Instrument panel switches include hazard, fog light, panel illumination dimmer rheostat, rear defogger and rear wiper/washer. Pop-up headlight switch has been eliminated and replaced by a non-functional plug.
