Removal & Installation: Tachometer: Installation

  1. Position tachometer to rear of assembly and secure with screws. On tachometer face, gently place bushing onto shaft. Grasp tachometer pointer by hub, and position onto shaft with pointer tip indicating about 6000 RPM.
  2. Gently push down on pointer hub while rotating pointer assembly counterclockwise (a slight resistance should be felt). Clearance between hub underside and dial surface should be .020-.060" (.50-1.52 mm) BEFORE pointer tip is aligned with the zero horizontal graduation.
  3. Stop rotating when pointer tip aligns with zero horizontal graduation. Let go of pointer. If pointer tip DOES NOT align with zero horizontal graduation, perform either of the 2 following steps:
    • If pointer is too high, continue rotating counterclockwise until alignment is achieved. Repeat installation procedure if necessary.
    • If pointer is too low, rotate pointer assembly clockwise until rotational resistance is felt. Continue rotating pointer in direction of resistance the amount needed to compensate for initial misalignment. Release hub allowing pointer assembly to rotate back to its reset position (zero horizontal alignment). Repeat pointer installation procedure, if necessary.
  4. Install Dial and Gauge Assembly to cluster assembly. Install Black mask and then clear lens. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
