Vehicle Maintenance Monitor (VMM): Notes
The Vehicle Maintenance Monitor (VMM) is a microcomputer. It displays messages of conditions monitored by various input signals. Conditions monitored are: brake and taillight bulbs, coolant level, windshield washer fluid level, vehicle speed and door ajar inputs. The monitor also receives signals from the speed sensor module and the light outage module. The word MONITOR will be displayed if the vehicle is started and no faults are present.
If vehicle is started and a fault is detected, one of the 9 system messages will be displayed. If more than one fault is detected, messages are displayed in order of priority. The VMM automatically notifies the driver to perform a particular service on the vehicle, after a pre-programmed number of miles have been driven. When a fault is present, the monitor sends a signal to the chime module.
Numerical information can be displayed in English or metric measurements. Fuse No. 6 supplies constant voltage to the VMM. This allows the monitor to remember the vehicle's present condition when the ignition is turned off. Fuse No. 7 supplies voltage to the VMM to turn on the LCD display and to begin monitoring system inputs when ignition is in the RUN position. The VMM is capable of self-diagnostics that aid in system troubleshooting.
Listed below in order of priority are the VMM system messages and their display abbreviations in parenthesis ( ):
