Oil Pan - 4WD: Removal

  1. Drain engine oil. Remove crossmember near transaxle end of oil pan. Transfer case assembly must be removed. Disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold. Remove transfer case-to-transaxle bolts.
  2. Move transfer case to left and lower the front side. Disengage transfer case from drive shaft, using care not to damage transfer case oil seal. Tie drive shaft aside to prevent excessive angle on the shaft.
  3. Remove left drive shaft and inner shaft assembly. See FWD AXLE SHAFTS article. On turbo models, disconnect turbo oil return pipe at oil pan.
  4. On all models, remove oil pan bolts. Install Oil Pan Remover (MD998727) between oil pan and cylinder block to break sealant from cylinder block. Remove oil pan.
