Removal (Colt, Colt Vista 2WD, Colt Wagon, Colt 200/Summit)

1. Remove battery, battery tray and air cleaner assembly. Drain transaxle oil and clutch fluid (if equipped). On Colt, Colt 200 and Summit, disconnect tension rod located above transaxle mounting bracket.
2. On all models, disconnect control cables, speedometer cable and electrical connections at transaxle. Remove clutch release cylinder with line connected.
3. Remove starter motor. Support transaxle. Remove upper transaxle-to-engine bolts and transaxle mounting bracket bolt. Loosen nuts and disconnect ball joint and tie rod ends from steering knuckles. DO NOT  remove ball joint and tie rod end nuts.
4. Disengage the axle shafts and support aside. Refer to the AXLE SHAFTS - FRONT article in the DRIVE AXLES section. DO NOT  damage oil seal. Plug shaft openings in transaxle.
   CAUTION: DO NOT  pull on axle shafts during removal, or damage to shaft assembly will result.
5. Remove bellhousing cover. Support engine. Remove remaining transaxle-to-engine bolts. Remove transaxle assembly. Insert a clutch disc guide through clutch disc to prevent it from dropping.
6. Diagonally loosen pressure plate bolts to avoid bending pressure plate flange during removal. Remove pressure plate and clutch disc. See Fig 1 .
