Wheel Bearing (Colt Wagon 4WD): Removal

  1. Bleed brake system and drain differential fluid. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Remove brake drum. Disconnect brake pipe and parking brake cable connections. Remove shoe assembly. Remove backing plate plug and remove axle shaft assembly.
  2. Remove oil seal using Slide Hammer (C-637). Grind a section of inner bearing retainer until it is .04-.06" (1.0-1.5 mm) thick. Using a chisel, make a cut in ground section of retainer. Be careful NOT to damage axle shaft. Remove wheel bearing using Puller (MB990104).
