Removal & Installation: Tachometer: Installation

  1. Position tachometer and secure with screws. Grasp the pointer by the hub and gently place the bushing onto movement shaft. The pointer tip should be indicating approximately 6000 RPM.
  2. Rotate pointer assembly counterclockwise while gently pushing down on hub toward dial surface (a slight resistance should be felt). Clearance between the hub underside and dial surface should be .020-.060" (.50-1.52 mm) before pointer tip is in line with zero horizontal graduation.
  3. If pointer is NOT properly aligned to the horizontal graduation, perform either of the 2 following steps:
    • If pointer is too high, continue rotating assembly counterclockwise until alignment is achieved. Repeat procedure if necessary.
    • If pointer is too low, rotate pointer assembly clockwise until rotational resistance is felt (this does not refer to contact with trip reset shaft). Continue rotating in direction of resistance to compensate for initial alignment. Release hub allowing pointer assembly to rotate back to its reset position. Repeat procedure if necessary. To install cluster assembly, reverse removal procedure.
