Vehicle Maintenance Monitor (VMM): Notes

The Vehicle Maintenance Monitor (VMM) displays messages of conditions monitored by various input signals. Conditions monitored are: oil level, coolant level, windshield washer fluid level, vehicle speed and door ajar inputs. The monitor also receives signals from the transmission control unit and the light outage module. If the vehicle is started and no faults are present, MONITOR will be displayed. If vehicle is started and a fault is detected, one of the 9 system messages or one of the 6 service reminder messages will be displayed. If more than one fault is detected, messages are displayed in order of priority. The trip computer automatically notifies the driver after a pre-programmed number of miles have been driven to perform a particular service on the vehicle.

When a fault is present, the monitor sends a signal to the chime module. Numerical information can be displayed in English or Metric measurements. Fuse No. 2 supplies voltage to the VMM at all times. This allows the monitor to remember the vehicle's present condition when the ignition is off. Fuse No. 8 supplies voltage to the VMM to turn on the LCD display and begin monitoring system inputs.
